Shout out to a fantastic site

I'd like to start off the day by taking care of a little business. I've invited some of my friends who love history like I do to be guest authors. I don't know how often they'll post, but I'm really thrilled, because this way we can all learn together and teach each other. Anyway, be on the lookout for posts by people other than me, because I've recruited a really diverse group of people and perspectives.

Now, without further ado, I'd like to give a shout out to one of my favorite websites: www.shorpy.com. It calls itself "The 100 year old Photo Blog," and that's a pretty accurate moniker. It features high resolution scans of photos spanning in time from antebellum daguerreotypes to 1960s Kodachrome. If you're wondering, the site takes it's name from the first photo posted on the site, a 1910 picture of a very young Jefferson County miner whose name was Shorpy Higginbotham.

The site has upwards of 600 pages of photos with more added every day. It's organized really well and is well-designed and easy to navigate. I recommend it for a casual browse, for writers looking to glean some details of past culture or character ideas, or for any student or enthusiast of history.

That's all for now. Like I said, go visit Shorpy, it's very cool.
