An event coming up!

Y'all know by now I'm not above putting in a plug for something if I think it's worthwhile. Well, I know this event will be worth your time, I want to cordially invite you all to the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Christmas Open House.

2-4 PM
Sunday 04 December 2011

Admission is free, though donations are always welcome.

The Jemison-van de Graaff Mansion (1859)
Battle-Friedman Home (1835)
Old Tavern (1827)

You can visit the houses in any order, and the Tuscaloosa Trolley will be shuttling visitors from house to house.

The houses are beautifully decorated for Christmas
(I should know. I helped decorate.)

Strings in Schools will perform at the Jemison
A handbell choir at the Battle-Friedman
Father Christmas at the Tavern

Refreshments at each location, including traditional Hanukkah fare in honor of the Friedman family's Jewish heritage.

I'll be there (that's all the incentive you need, right?), and I would love to see you there as well. There are tons of cool things to see at each location.

The oldest piano in the county is at the Jemison.

At the Battle-Friedman, look for the Titanic table. It belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Isidor Straus, the couple who owned Macy's and went down with Titanic.

Francis Scott Key, author of The Star-Spangled Banner stayed at the Old Tavern.

Anyway, I'd love to see you there. It's a great chance to see these houses the way they were meant to be seen: full of celebration, people, and life.
