I have a profound hatred of admitting that I have made a mistake. However, I (almost) always swallow my pride and do so. I misunderstood the data I was using, and erroneously assumed that names without additional popularity information never appeared on another Social Security Administration names list.
I was right about many of them. (Orange, for example, never caught up on after the 1880s.) However, some names did appear on subsequent lists. (Adella and Miller are two that come to mind.) I apologize for the incorrect information, however I feel that the spirit of the article is correct. Most of the names on the list were horrible names. You should never name a boy (or a girl, for that matter) Pink. Or Lawyer. Or Fairy.
