The Fabulous Faberge

If you don't love the famous jeweled eggs made by the House of Faberge, you're probably a Bolshevik. No, seriously.

Carl Faberge was the official jeweler of the Russian Imperial family from 1885 until Russian Revolution and murder of the Romanov family in 1918.

Faberge made 65 Easter eggs between 1885-1917. 57 are still known to exist today. 50 of the eggs were made for the Tsar's family. 42 of the Imperial eggs have survived. And of the 8 lost eggs, photographs exist of only two.

Each egg contained a surprise inside, as an added dose of awesomeness.

The first egg was ordered by Tsar Alexander III, for his wife. He gave her a new egg every Easter until his death. However, his son, Tsar Nicholas II continued the tradition. He ordered two eggs every Easter- one for his mother, and one for his wife.
