First off, I'm sorry I've not posted for so long. I've had an extremely busy week and internet woes. But I'm back!
Also, I am working on an interesting Veteran's Day post, but it's taking longer than I had expected. It'll be up tomorrow. In the meantime, say a prayer tonight for the brave men and women overseas right now. Also, remember the veterans who have served in Sudan, Libya, Haiti, Liberia, Yemen, Pakistan, Iraq, the Sahara, Somalia, the Philippines, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Bosnia, Panama, Iran, Lebanon, Grenada, Dominican Republic, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Korea, and WWII. These are just some of the countries and conflicts in which Americans have served and from which veterans still survive.
Remember those who served in the War to End All Wars, the Great War, known today as WWI. The men and women who made up this mythical Lost Generation have all passed away now, save one. Florence Green, of the UK, is the last surviving veteran of the Great War. She is 110 years old. (She will be 111 on 19 February.) She was born in 1901 and enlisted in the British Army in 1918.
Also pray for the families and friends of our troops. It takes a special kind of person to keep the home fires burning and to stay strong when those you love are so far away. I couldn't do it, and the military wives and husbands have my utmost admiration. Remember those who have lost their lives in service to their country, and don't forget the loved ones left behind. Pray that the scars of conflict are healed as completely as is possible, not just physical, but emotional scars as well.
However, perhaps the most important thing you can pray for is peace. Ask that God intercede in the hearts of all humankind. Allow us to learn from the mistakes of our forebears, and awaken our senses of mercy, love, and kindness. I firmly believe that each of us is born with the capacity to love. Hate is learned, love is innate.
Goodnight, dear friends, and Dona Nobis Pacem.
Always,
Callie
