The Most Unintentionally Hilarious Children's Book Ever

The World's Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago in 1893, was a big deal. The other day I bought a book from the same year entitled "The Century World's Fair Book for Boys and Girls." It cost me one dollar, though other copies sell for hundreds. I'm not interested enough in World's Fair memorabilia to pay much for it, but the prose in this book is absolutely hilarious. It's truly just bizarre, but provides some interesting insight into Victorian culture, vernacular, humor, and values. I present it here for your enjoyment.

I'll upload it bit by bit, whenever the mood strikes me.

Installment one will be up today. I hope y'all find it at least slightly amusing, because I certainly do. I was LOLing all last night over a piece of Victorian children's literature.

The book is filled with photos and illustrations, but they're not very high quality, and actually have nothing to do with the plot of the story. If you are interested, I can put some of them on the blog later.

Anyway, enjoy. If you find it entertaining, let me know, and I'll continue to post it.
